American Democracy Swept Away
They needed the Supreme Court to support their far-right proposals. They got it, due in no small part to a Democratic Party behaving like scared children.
After capturing the high court, they controlled the law, including an insane, anti-American ruling declaring the President of the United States to be immune from prosecution, in a country where no one is supposed to be “above the law.” This is a legal travesty.
They attacked legitimate news and information outlets by labeling them as “fake news,” causing millions of Americans to leave legitimate news outlets, turning instead to news outlets that knowingly slanted their presentation to the right. They now control what much of the country thinks.
For years, disinformation was rolled out to the American public in a great brainwashing scam, a great many of them too busy holding down jobs to support their families to be expected to do a deep dive into the political arena needed for any complex analysis of what was going on - that they were being conned.
Americans are not stupid, but they are susceptible to being misled by false information, some of it coming out of Russian troll farms.
When you have the law on your side and nearly half the country’s voting age population brainwashed in your favor, what more do you need? Guns, that’s what. The force of violence, our police and military backed by a president who is immune from prosecution and a Republican Party that refuses to hold him accountable.
Like Hitler, in the 1930’s, they need the force of violence on their side to successfully deter any pushback when they try and rig the upcoming midterm elections. Trump and his goons will need protection as their proposals become less about a free society and more about the need to install Dictator Trump, because, they will argue, ‘only he can fix it.”
Clearly, judging by the response Trump got at the meeting with our generals and admirals in Quantico, he doesn’t yet have the military under his spell. The number of police officers that will sell out the oaths they took, remains to be seen.
Hopefully our police and military will side with the Constitution and the freedom it provides and not with Donald Trump and this corrupt Republican Party, which continues to lead us down a path to the death of American Democracy. The death of our free society. The death of self-determination.
Clearly, the Republicans have no shame and the Democrats appear to be too weak in the knees to put up an effective fight.
At this point the Republican’s greatest weapon may be that their course of action is simply beyond belief. By the time much of America awakens to what’s happened, it could be too late. Our Democracy will have been swept away.
All of it has happened before and it can happen here. It’s just that simple.
